At Paladin Radiators we have always considered the fact that a heating system can be aesthetic as well as functional, after all why should your cast iron radiators be boring. We all know that in the old days it was considered the practical and modern thing to do by hiding your radiators away behind ornamental radiator covers, of course these days we know that not only is it not practical or efficient but can potentially be a fire hazard as well.

Besides why would you want to hide away such stunning designs as the Montpellier or Saint Paul, and with our ever growing range of paint and polish options for your cast iron radiators, even the most plain designs can look stunning in your home environment.

Our recently modernised paint shop and drying rooms in our new workshops mean that we can offer an even better service when it comes to customising your radiators and making them unique to you with your own personal stamp on them, and with our painting service that now allows you to choose your own colour scheme there is absolutely no excuse for your radiators to look drab and dull.

Simply supply the RAL, BS number, paint name, sample or even a swatch of the wallpaper you are going to use and we can match the colour exactly, be imaginative with your cast iron radiator and create a real centre piece for your room. And yes we can even do you one in shocking pink, what would the Victorians think?

Is it a period property that you live in or are there restrictions or heritage requirements that must be met for your cast iron radiators? That’s not a problem either, at Paladin Radiators you can choose from authentic heritage and historical colours from our Farrow and Ball Historical colour range. We generally use the oil eggshell finish for authenticity but a full oil gloss finish is also available on request.

Not satisfied with just those choices Paladin have also created a range of specialist finishes including our ‘Highlighted’ range, using either rich gold or striking pewter this stunning paint effect creates a truly dramatic and atmospheric finish to any of our range of cast iron radiators that have the rich decorative detailing such as the Saint Paul. This finish works really well with all of our historic colours and one of our other specialist finishes the ‘Metallic’ range although we will happily discuss other options with our customers.

The Metallic range of finishes comes in eight different colours and is a very popular method of finish with many of our clients especially the natural cast and old penny colours and if you still don’t have enough choice then we also have our specially developed ‘Antique’ effects. Available on all of the metallic and historical colours our team have perfected the art of these effects that look particularly stunning on decorative radiators from our range.

Now who said cast iron had to look boring!!!!

Paladin have grown continually over the last ten years and we now enjoy the accolade of being the leading UK manufacturer of cast iron radiators, this continued expansion has been one of the driving factors in our move to the 30,000 square foot premises we now occupy giving us present and future capacity to meet the demands of our business.

We have always been proud of the range of fantastic custom finishes we are able to provide for our customers and part of the new workshops includes our new spray booths and commercial drying room that allows our expert team of finishers to complete a massive 800 sections of radiator per day. This capacity and new space will also give us the capability to develop and extend our range of paint finishes even more and things are already in the pipeline in this area were recent research has shown that some of our most popular effects over the years have been our hand antiqued finishes and the stunning highlight effects that our experts are able to create.

It has always been important to the Paladin brand and the team for us to meet the client and in the past visitors have always been welcome at Skirbeck Hall, with the move to our new workshops comes even more change as we have also incorporated a purpose built Marketing Suite which allows us to have a huge range of our cast iron radiator designs and finishes on permanent show as well as our range of custom built traditional towel rails, a product that over the past few years is proving to be more and more popular.

Visitors to the company are now able to enjoy the range of our products from the comfort of this suit as well as being treated to a guided tour of the factory were they can witness first hand the care and attention to detail that goes into the creation of every single cast iron radiator that leaves our doors.

One of the biggest costs for all of us at the moment can be heating our homes, especially if they have the more spacious rooms that are often found in older Victorian and Edwardian homes. Energy prices are rising every year and this can make it expensive to ensure that your homes and workplaces are heated comfortably for yourself or your employees. Traditional cast iron radiators could provide you with a surprisingly cost effective choice for your business or if you are looking to renovate.

Many people think of cast iron radiators as old fashioned and even antiques and do not realise how efficient these traditional radiators really are. If you have to heat large, open spaces that are affected by a number of heat loss factors then traditional cast iron radiators could be one of the most practical solutions available to you.

In the past many of these radiators would have been replaced, and many contemporary homes saw their old fashioned traditional radiators thrown on the scrap heap in favour of more up-to-date models. Nowadays it is much more fashionable to have these iron works of art as more and more people are also realising that these traditional radiators are actually very efficient. Per square inch these radiators generate far more heat than many conventional designs for the same amount of energy input. The higher heat output can also help to offset any heat loss sources. These traditional radiators take much longer to cool down once the power source has been switched off. This means you will not need to run the boiler for as long.

Traditional radiators can be a very cost effective and practical way for you to heat your home or business premises. If you have large open plan offices, factory spaces, warehouse etc. then traditional radiators can be an effective way to maintain a comfortable working environment for your staff.

Another often overlooked benefit of traditional radiators is that there are many designs that offer a very attractive design element to your home or business. Cast iron radiators have a timeless style and quality that can transform the look and feel of many different kinds of interior spaces, and are available in a range of ever growing designs and styles from which to choose, whether it be plain and simple or decorative works of art.

Traditional radiators can offer more than just functionality with a classic design that looks good with almost any décor.

These radiators are also available in a wide range of different finishes, and the collection is also being added to continuously, with bold bright colours and metallic effects the options for personalising and making them unique is almost limitless and this gives you plenty of choice to match your existing colour and branding schemes.

Our radiators have been installed in many stately homes and buildings of heritage and recently we even managed to appear in a video produced by the 2012 Listed Property Show, so why not take a look at our cast iron radiators or order one of our brochures.

Having just returned from another absolutely fabulous Homebuilding and Renovating Show we are bracing ourselves for a busy time ahead, but one of the things that we have taken away from this years show is that people are really beginning to realise the beauty and style of our products, something we have been shouting about for years.

There are some aspects of style and design that are so on the mark when they are first released that they never go out of fashion and we feel that the Victorian Cast Iron Radiator is one of those items and they can easily add that classic touch to any home. When chosen correctly the different models in our range of Victorian styles can provide instant style to any interior design scheme you have in mind.

A Victorian cast iron radiator is a thing of engineering beauty. It combines form and function into one stunning package. You do need to make sure you are choosing quality cast iron radiators for your home though.

Specialist manufacturing techniques are required to create these wonderful radiators. You will want to be sure the Victorian cast iron radiator products you buy for your home are fully functional and can offer practical heating as well as great looks.

Paladin Radiators have been providing this specialist service for many years, all our radiators are custom built to the specification of the client at our own unique UK workshops with our designs being manufactured meticulously in our own factory allowing us to ensure that every detail is of the highest quality, supported by our expert team ensuring the finished products in your home provide a magnificent result.

Victoriana

The Victoriana is a timeless classic, this cast iron radiator with its elegant column design will compliment the period or modern home and are perfect if you want the minimalistic look, add one of our stunning custom paint finishes and you can create an austere look that can add streamlined beauty to any home.

Churchill

Need something that you can fit into those awkward spaces or those low bay windows that you invariably find in these period homes then the Churchill Victorian Cast Iron Radiator is the perfect solution providing your home with maximum heat output without the height. The Churchill is also a great solution for loft conversions or rooms that have a low roof elevation.

Pimlico

Typically known as a late Victorian design the Pimlico cast iron radiator was seen throughout the Edwardian Period also, where its more curvaceous lines were more appealing and very popular.

You can see from our example images some of the stunning finishes that are available with all of our cast iron radiators, in fact at the show we have recently launched several new finishes and we are always looking to improve this range too. So whether you require a polished finish or one that needs to be a match for a particular Heritage colour, or you just want them to match your own colours we can provide the perfect finish for you. To learn more about our stunning range of paint and polished finishes check out our cast iron radiators painting service page.

Not many people are aware of the fact that Romans were one of the first civilisations to actually make use of any form of Central Heating. Of course it wasn’t anything like the systems we are used to in modern times but they were nonetheless an advanced form of heating, the Romans utilising air that was heated by a furnace then fed this heated air through an underfloor system of spaces known as a hypocaust. Of course the principal they used of heated air can still be found in many modern heating systems, but the first central heating systems created using cast iron radiators as we recognise them today were manufactured in the early 19th Century and the mass production of these and the fact that they could be produced for much lower costs meant they were more available to the general population and thus there use became widespread. Thе sturdiness, durability аnd relatively low cost οf this malleable material meant that cast iron became a popular medium for casting and as can still be seen today was greatly used by the Victorians in many structures throughout the UK.

Because of the age and heritage of our towns and cities here in the UK, many of us are fortunate enough to live in some lovely period homes, many of them may have been changed and altered over the decades but some still retain some of their traditional features, and if they don’t many of us nowadays are looking to restore them to their former glory. We have a wide range of Victorian and Edwardian style cast iron radiators that are ideal for complementing with many of our homes and especially those that may be considered to be of a beautiful and historic architectural nature.

Many of the authentic and original designs of these products have took their inspiration from the structures and natural forms that surrounded our landscape at the periods they were created and as such they will invariably add a warming and authentic feel to many of our period homes, especially those of a Victorian and Edwardian nature when these cast iron radiators were at their height of popularity. We have mentioned many times in the past how our Saint Paul radiator is a faithful copy of the original described in the American Radiator Companies brochure as ‘a work of art in iron’ and when you look at the workmanship involved it is easy to see how these functional objects make a superb decorative feature of any home.

Thе ornate styling οn cast iron radiators such as the Saint Paul first manufactured in the 1880′s is the perfect choice for a dramatic centrepiece with its combined cherubs, dragons and lions intertwined with vines makes for a stunning visual focal point and when combined with one of our highlight effect paint finishes it can soon bеcome the topic of conversation tοο. Any of our Victorian cast iron radiators or any of the other products in our range саn аlѕο hаνе a hand polished fіnіѕh, and these finishes can have been specifically designed to enhance and accentuate the beautiful details in the casts of our radiators.

Thе distinctive quality and look and feel οf аn ornate cast iron radiator саn really bring out character in аnу home. Want to get up close and personal with our entire range of cast iron radiators then come and see us at the NEC and the National Homebuilding and Renovating Show from the 29th March to the 1st April.

Contrary to popular belief baths were not originally anything to do with hygiene, some of the earliest records of baths and bathing date back over five millennia to approx. 3000 B.C. at which time water was an element that was more ritual and deemed as purifying for the body and soul and it was often a requirement for people to cleanse themselves at ritual and religious sites.

It wasn’t until around the third millennium B.C. that we began to see them being used as we know them today and this period is often referred to as the ‘age of cleanliness’ with both toilets and sewers being invented in several parts of the world with some of these resembling our modern counterparts.

Jumping forward throughout the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, the use of public baths declined gradually in the west, and private spaces were favoured, thus laying the foundations for the bathroom, as it was to become, in the 20th century. Even then it was a room that didn’t exist in many British homes until around 50 years ago.

Of course the modern bathroom is often considered to be one of the more luxurious of rooms in the home and we spend more time enjoying a relaxing soak in the bath due to modern heating systems and maybe even some of the beautiful cast iron radiators we are always writing about.

Something once considered the most luxurious part of any bathroom was the heated towel rail and they were first made popular and famous by European hotels where they were used as both a towel dryer and towel rack. Of course these days a traditional towel rail like this is considered to be much more than just a device for warming or drying your towels and can often be the signature piece and focal point of the whole room.

These elegant and functional objects can make up a great deal of your bathroom furniture and using a cast iron radiator within your traditional towel rail will make a statement that may you almost certainly could not make with more modern towel rails.

At Paladin Radiators we like to give you choice and make those choices into something of beauty that you will be able to admire for many years to come, and so we decided to allow you to be creative and customise your traditional towel rail to create and individual and authentic bathroom feature.

Customised towel rails give you the ability to incorporate one of the many designs of cast iron radiators into a selection of pipe styles and finishes, even creating a storage rail on the top. With the ability to design the rail to your own heat requirements and fit virtually any wall space the combinations are limitless, and of course you can make use of all the cast iron radiator finishes to customise your traditional towel rails even more.

There are many programmes these days on the TV that revolve around the renovation of period homes and how you can maintain period features that still exist and even replace those that have been removed or destroyed. But what if you want to improve the heating system that is in the building or even completely replace it with something modern and efficient but still maintain that period feel and look.

Well these days that’s not as difficult as it sounds and you can now install the very latest designs in highly efficient cast iron radiators from an incredible range of traditional and historically accurate styles. Cast Iron Radiators are the perfect solution when it comes to making improvements to your period homes heating system and offer many advantages over such systems as the less efficient and more costly forced air systems and are even more efficient than modern steel radiators. Cast Iron is not a modern material and has been used around the world for centuries and was a material favoured by the Victorians and has been utilised in many famous construction projects.

What many people don’t realise is that it is also well known for its exceptionally high heat capacity. What this actually means is that the cast iron radiator has the ability to hold a larger amount of heat energy than its counterparts and as the air in your rooms only require small amounts of this energy to increase in temperature they make a very efficient method for heating small or large rooms alike. Because of the nature and properties of cast iron they also generate a more consistent and constant heat which is a more radiant and even holds that heat for longer periods after the system has been turned off.

Modern companies can now supply modern reproduction cast iron radiators that can be custom built to the client’s requirements providing the functionality that they require as well as providing authentic designs to match most Edwardian and Victorian period homes. At Paladin Radiators all of our designs are carefully tooled and designed around authentic and original patterns which mean that our radiators are bringing back to life the beauty and form of the original cast iron radiator.

Of course there are other reasons besides the obvious efficiency properties of the cast iron radiator and these are more aesthetic which is something that we all consider more and more when we are doing renovation and redesign of our homes. It is here that the cast iron radiator can really shine and many of the designs are considered “a work of art in iron” there are very few heating sources that are as pleasing to the eye or considered a part of the furnishings as the cast iron radiator.

So if you are looking to bring that traditional style to your period home or even a modern build then we would seriously urge you to take a look at the cast iron radiator as a modern and efficient solution to your heating requirements.
